"If you take the 'v' out of lives, what do you get?" It's a question Zach continues to ask himself as his entire life is turned upside down. He is living in a new town, going to a new school, with a new name. His father is in jail, and his family is in Witness Protection.
Roland Smith is the master of the fast-paced young adult adventure book. I have read three others of Roland's novels, my other favorite being Peak, and he knows how to pull you into the story and then keep you reading until you finish. The beginning had some slow moments, but it picks up once Zach is completely in another town. What I appreciate about Smith's writing is that he strips it down to the essence of the story, and every piece, no matter how insignificant, plays a part in the tale.
